Everybody Can Relate Too Food

Food is universal

At least, that’s what I think.

Let’s all get on the thought train for a few minutes. Because there is one thing that has been a unifying force in all of human history. Food. Food is universal because it is one of the basic needs of survival. People must eat to survive and what they eat is called food.

Therefore, food is a great way to communicate. Every culture has their own taste when it comes to food. Wether it be differences in spiciness, texture, smell, bitterness, etc.

This makes the people who eat said food different but the same. Because we all eat food!

I think that everybody can work together to get food. Hunter gatherers did it, medieval people did it, we do it. The process has changed over time of getting food but the consumption remains the same.

At this point many are probably wondering why this even matters and that I’m probably going off the rails so I will refocus here:

It is a fact that, as a human, you must consume food to stay alive (at our current level of technology) so it is something that every person has in common. Everybody has a favorite food and everybody can appreciate what food does for us.

I just wanted to dedicate this post to food and how awesome it is. Many people take food for granted and I think we should occasionally take a step back and wonder at how far food has progressed.

Thanks everybody for reading! Also, if you have a favorite food then let me know and why that is your favorite food in the comments :)

Inspiration

I’m going to just start typing and see what happens here.

I named this post “Inspiration” because that is what I need. I tend to have most of my posts planned out and there is usually a backlog of stuff that will get posted over the next few days or weeks.

I say this because right now there is no backlog. This is current.

I’m writing this because Inspiration is something that many people struggle with once they reach a certain part in their blogging career. Ha, look at me, implying that I have spent any sort of time on WordPress being an accomplished blogger.

It’s now been a few months since I started with blog and I have (let me check) 171 followers. Now that’s pretty cool, it’s nice that many people are getting my work whenever I post. Realistically the number is smaller than that because of the spam accounts that subscribe or the people who don’t actually care about my material but just about getting more views to their site.

But if you are  one of my readers who like seeing my stuff then I thank you! Especially the people who comment frequently and participate in conversations, going to give a shout out to Aul and Atherz there.

But let’s get back the main topic (was there a topic?) of Inspiration.

I tend to have the best ideas when I’m doing nothing, just sitting still and wondering about the universe. Sometimes I play some music . . . okay most of the time I play music but that’s besides the point (again, what is the point?) Inspiration comes in many forms and from many sources (finally a point to this whole thing!) While I get inspiration from pondering, another may get inspiration from hanging upside down, or working out. Whatever it may be, being inspired and having a unique thought is always interesting and fun.

I love discovering a certain pathway of thinking I had not gone down before and exploring it further. That is usually how I get my ideas for posting.

Coincidentally, when I do not have time to sit around and ponder I have fewer ideas, as is the case right now, resulting in what you are reading now, assuming you’ve made it this far. I know it’s been a lot looking back but hopefully I’ll find an ending to this pathway soon.

Anyway, the moral of the story (what does that even mean in this context?) is that you should take some time off from your busy schedule, if you have one, and spend some of that time off doing whatever activity it is that inspires you. I think that staying inspired is key to living a happy life so start thinking!

If you made it this far then I thank you for reading everything! I hope I . . . inspired you (ha . ha . ha . I’m sorry) If you liked this style of writing, essentially a stream of consciousness, then let me know. I still need to make my next post ;)

You Do Not Understand Infinity

infinity-38084

“Do you believe in infinity?”

You do not understand it and I do not understand it.

Fact.

Why is this you might ask? Well I’ll explain this to you, and myself.

What is infinity? Some would say it is a number, they would be wrong of course. This is because infinity is a concept.

It’s defined as 1. “the state or quality of being infinite.” and 2. “a number greater than any assignable quantity or countable number (symbol ∞).”

I agree with this definition . . . in part.

To me, infinity is something much greater than mere numbers (sorry math people) Infinity is the idea that anything is possible.

While that may seem like a cliché I would like you to stop and think for a second about this, “Do you believe in infinity?”

I would argue that the vast majority of people do not. But I like to think that I do.

“What does this all mean, is anything really possible? and to that question I would say yes.

Infinity means that there is no limit. If something can be imagined then it can be possible. However, it may not be possible in our universe. This is to say that there are laws governing how our universe works and according to infinity there re other universes with different laws than our and in those universes something that may not be possible in our universe . . . is possible.

Let’s try an example. Is it possible that the world of Star Wars exists somewhere? If you think according to infinity then . . . yes.

You’re probably scoffing at this point (I understand it is difficult to understand) but if there is no limit then there is nothing that can’t be.

One of my favorite visualizations of this concept is dreams. I dream, you dream, everybody dreams. Wether or not we remember all of them is not uniform but at some point you have a dream that you remember. If you think about infinity, then somewhere out in the possibilities of creation that dream, that idea your brain thought up, is happening, or has happened, and that is entirely possible.

Another example I like to use and the one that I think people find is most difficult to comprehend, is that you have another you out there. Most are taught at a young age and then as they grow up that they are unique and no one else is exactly like them. However, if you visualize infinity, then you realize that the opposite is true. You are not unique per say, because there is an infinite amount of people who are exactly like you, in every way, somewhere.

Let me just re-state. I do not think that same you is necessarily in this universe but is some other form they exist.

Who knows, it is entirely possible that someone with the same life as you and the same ideas and beliefs exists but with one key difference, they have the ability to fly. Now isn’t that frustrating? Why couldn’t you be the you that can fly?

Ideas like that is what separates those who understand infinity and those who don’t. If you understand then you acknowledge that everything and anything is possible.

I don’t want to try and convert you or anything but I wanted to give you an eye-opener to the possibilities that arise when you think of infinity. Who knows, I may be crazy for thinking this but I think that the entire concept is amazing and I wanted to share it with you :)

So let me know what you think? Is this appealing to you or does you fear something like this? Let me know!

Can You Know To Much?

NO! ABSOLUTELY NOT!

It angers me quite a lot when I hear someone say “I don’t need to know that,” or “What is the use of knowing x?” Because I think that you can never know too much.

Why would you ever not want to know something? Knowledge can only further you in life. Where would we be if some of the great inventors in the past had thought “I don’t need to know how that works.” Say goodbye to electricity.

What’s worse is when people refuse to learn new things. I see this a lot when people interact with technology. If something doesn’t work, they get frustrated and give up, getting someone else to fix whatever problem they were having. However, the better thing to do would be to look up how to fix it and do it yourself! I’d be willing to bet that they have another computer in the house or a phone that is connected to the internet. If they don’t have neither of those things then they have a legitimate reason to call someone to fix whatever it is they need help with.

Knowledge is what separates us as individuals. To have more knowledge is to have a more defined self. If everyone had the same knowledge then I think that they would not be much of an individual. But if I know something that you don’t or vice versa then that is what distinguishes you from me, and that’s a good thing.

If you don’t have knowledge then you are helpless. That’s not to say that someone who knows less is less intelligent but I think that they are at a disadvantage.

In an age where the entirety of human history and knowledge can be accessed from a small device that fits inside your pocket, saying “I don’t know” is not a good excuse. I am guilty of this myself but I make it a point to learn something new everyday and to fix my own problems instead of immediately giving up and getting someone else to fix my problem for me.

Thanks for reading! I know that is was a little bit of a rant but a recent post by Cruel Ultimatum started my mind on this topic and I had to write a post about it.

The Increasing Amount Of Drones In The Sky

This is something that I’ve been thinking about lately: With all the recent interest and development in drone related things, what does that mean for the future when we look up at the sky?

I’ve been seeing articles and video’s pop up about new ways to put drones in the sky and the increasing popularity of quad-copters. Like GoPro’s recent video where someone flew a drone into the area where a fireworks show was being put on:

There is another idea (which I think is quite cool and clever) to use a drone to follow you while you do action sports that would require you to have another person with you but because you have this drone with you, you now have a cameraman that won’t complain or ask for breaks.

These guys are doing a kickstarter for what they call the AirDog.

I think that what they are doing is great and I think drones have an amazing potential. However there is a problem that I foresee.

What happens when you and everyone on your block has a drone of some sort. Will they crash into each other? Instead of yelling “get off my lawn!” will people yell “get out of my airspace!” These are things that will need to be addresses looking forward.

The peace of a calm summer day with the breeze blowing and the birds chirping would be shattered the moment a drone flew overhead, scattering the birds and breaking the calm of the scene.

Now I like drones, I think that the shots that the drone captured during the fireworks show were amazing and the AirDog idea is awesome (I’ll probably be getting one) but if there were 20 drones flying around the fireworks show and an AirDog following everyone around then it would get pretty annoying.

Just some food for thought. Speaking of thoughts, if you have any then feel free to voice them in the comments below. How do you feel about drones? Do you want more or less in the sky? I want to know :)

The Myo And Why I Want One

There has been a little invention that a team has been working on for the last few years call the Myo. It is a small band that you slip on to your arm and it allows your muscle movements to control your computer.

Myo sceenshot

They have started selling pre-orders and I am very excited to get one when they have finalized the design. I think that this concept has an amazing amount of potential and if I can code it to suit my specific needs then that’s even better.

It’s pretty affordable right now at a $150 US so it’s not an out of the question buy. They’ve been in development for a while now and have switched the overall look to what they say is now the finalized look. I’ll wait a bit until they have finalized it further but I am definitely going to get one.

Imagine being able to open your browser with a  flick of the wrist. Or maybe you have a workflow that opens up the applications you want to start off your day? Then you could just program a movement that would run the workflow and bam, everything turned on when you make a thumbs up! The future is now :)

If you want more information about the device, I’ll provide a link here that will take you to the developer’s website.

Interesting Line Of The Day #9

Zen 3

You’re loosing until you’ve won.

-Me

So I came up with this line a few days ago and thought it was rather interesting, so I put it here. My reasoning by saying this is basically don’t count your eggs before they’ve hatched or don’t expect to win. You should always keep trying as if you are loosing even if it looks like you are going to lose.
