The Importance Of Power

This video informed me about Thorium. Personally I like the idea of it and I think it is a worth while investment. Power is one of the most important things that we have in our world. Right after the basic necessities of life. You would not be reading this without power. Let me clarify, I mean electrical power. I recently heard a story about a Thorium reactor that was going to be built soon, I can’t remember where exactly. In any case, watch the video and I would love to hear what you think about this form of power generation or the way we generate power in general.

Gold In The Basement

This video is of something I don’t think that many people have seen, lots and lots of gold. Real gold. For me, this showed me just a massive amount of gold for the first time. It brings into mind what our economic system is based on, but I think that is a post for another time as that is a long discussion. For now, enjoy seeing so much gold, if that is your thing :)

Blog Theme

Just as a heads up, I’m going to be switching my blog theme around for the next few day to test out various themes. I thought I might need a change up from my initial theme so bear with me and let me know if there is one that you particularly enjoy :)

The View Of The Beach

Photo Apr 27, 11 07 08 AM

The beach is an interesting place. It is full of creation and distruction. New scenes are created at the crashing of every wave and the previous version is destroyed as well. As a wave crashes over a sand castle and brought down, a new one will be built in a new location, stronger then the first. Thus is the cycle of life, and the scene on the beach will be ever evolving, ever changing, until the world freezes over.

Movie Review: Transcendence

People fear what they do not understand.

This movie has been out for a week and I finally got around to seeing it. The concept looked cool from the one preview that I watched. Man about to die gets uploaded to a computer. Pretty typical actually and it has been done before or at least talked about. This movie did an interesting job with the concept though. There will be Spoilers after this sentence. The main character, Will,  gets injured and gets a terminal illness. That’s all fine and dandy. He then is uploaded onto a computer by his wife who does not want him to die. That works out too because they have been working their entire lives to do something like this. Then he is uploaded onto the internet and is everywhere and decides that he needs to build a new place to work that is away from prying eyes. That works out, I would probably do the same as people fear what they do not understand, a major theme of the movie actually. So after that he develops new techniques and technology that is far more advanced than anything we have today. That works out as Will is now a super computer that can think with a sentient mind creating new things would be simple. Nano-bots or nano-machines are introduced as a small thing at first. Then Will fixes a man who was beaten to almost death with his nano-machiens and we learn that he has wired him into a network and can control him. That is a little creepy, was not sure that Will had the best of intentions after that. Then lots of things started to get out of hand and it seemed that Will was not really Will and explosions happened but no one died? Yes that’s right, no one died, could that have been because Will was good? we won’t know because he is dead, or is he? This movie left you with a lot of questions and halfway through started to seem like nano-machines are the most important part of the movie.

Note to self, create nano-machines if you want to take over the world, and basically do anything else.

That is a major part of what I got out of this movie. Nano-machines can do anything and will change the world if ever made successfully. This movie also brought up some interesting philosophical questions and moral issues like if you put a man into a machine, is it really him? Does evolving past your current set of limitations make you the same person? Or is someone else? In the end we were led to believe that Will was actually Will all along and he never wanted to hurt anyone and in the end no one really died but the “hybrids” that were created, did they have free will? Were they free to make their own decisions and would Will stop them if they acted against him? Those were all questions that were not answered. It was hinted that Will may have survived in the rain water that as shown at the end of the film because there were nano-machines in the water. So he could still recreate when the time is right I guess. The questions posed in the film will be occupying my mind for the next few days. It may even inspire a few new posts in the days to come.

Overall I liked the movie and thought that it was interesting. It was definitely worth seeing for me just because of the concept that it posed and while it may not be for everyone it peaked my interest.

The Life Of A Sick Person

I’m writing this because it is relevant, to me. I am currently a little under the weather and that gave me an idea, white a post about it! So here we are, pretty cool right? Alright so my thought was that being sick is not fun. Obviously this is not an original idea but let me give you a brief background. For me, sickness is no big deal. I have a great immune system and  rarely, if ever, get sick. I have only gotten seriously sick once or twice in my life so far and even now the worst I have is a runny nose and a slight headache. (I just remembered that I need to make a picture header for this new category) My point is that being sick is a part of our lives. It is our bodies way of dealing with nasty things that are in our bodies and we feel all run down because our body is taking extra resources to combat whatever the foreign things are in your body. In a way being sick is good because it means that our bodies are still able to fight whatever it is that should not be in our bodies. (I said bodies a whole lot in those last few sentences I realize) So I’m bummed out that I’m not able to operate at my normal level but I am happy that I am still alive and that I am not as sick as I could be. I feel for the people who get so sick that it is hard to move but in the end it is a choice on how you interpret the situation. I like to put a positive spin on things, and then they usually turn out good in the end. For example, if I get some good sleep tonight then I’m sure that by tomorrow I will feel right as rain. So remember, if you are sick, it could be worse :)

The Universim

Universim

The Universim by Crytivo Games — Kickstarter.

This games interests me. Today they announced a kickstarter after much preparation with the pre-alpha. This game has everything for people who like simulation games and or management games. Resources, cities, space exploration, aliens, disasters. I personally will be backing this and I hope that is succeeds as it seems like a creative and fun idea. That pretty much all I have to say about it. If you want to know more then check out their kickstarter pages which i have included a handy dandy link to under the picture.
